Organizational structure of the  Sociology Department

History background

The Sociology Department (formerly the Sociology team in the Marxist-Leninist Political Economy Department) was formed in 1994. In 2008, the Department of Sociology was established under the Faculty of Political and Social Science (According to Decision No. 303/QD-NNI dated March 4, 2008 of the Rector of Hanoi University of Agriculture I).

The Sociology Department, Faculty of Political and Social Science, Vietnam Academy of Agriculture is constantly educating the qualified sociology human-resources, improving the academic researches  in the field of social and rural development, providing the  practical contributions to the socio-economic development of the country.

Staff

Currently, the Department of Sociology has 06 lecturers, including 01 Associate Professor, 2 PhD, 03 masters. Most of the lecturers in the subject are graduated from leading universities in Vietnam such as University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi National University of Education, etc., and received post-graduate training at the prestigious European institutions such as the Institute of Social Studies (ISS, The Netherlands), the University of Liège (ULG, Belgium), the Swedish Agricultural University (SLU). In addition, Sociology Department also attracts the most prestigious visiting professors in the social sciences such as Prof. Dr. Dang Canh Khanh, Prof. Dr. Le Thi Quy; Prof.Dr. Pham Van Quyet, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Chien...

Training activities

Since its establishment in 2008, the Department of Sociology has been training over 1000 sociology students. In addition, the Department has participated in guiding and assisting the doctoral theses and master's theses of the graduated students and the international students in the framework of international cooperation programs such as  the Freedom University, University of Liege, Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium); Savannakhet University  (Laos). The department staff have been teaching the Sociology of Development for the international graduated students in the IMARES program in cooperation with Belgian universities. They also participated in the training courses for Czech students, the Social Work program with the German school Munich; gender mainstreaming training within the framework of the ACCCU project, Wageningen School, as well as mentoring graduated students, majors in social work at Thang Long University and affiliated units of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences and other faculties in Vietnam Academy of Agriculture

The main research direction of the Sociology Department focuses on social issues related to rural development such as:

9. Social protection and social works

The Department has chaired and participarted in many international cooperation projects as well as other projects such as:
